Scrapbook Trends Offering Digital Issues for $4.99

I just read this on a blog I followed called Scrapbook Updates that I thought I would share with all of you.

One of the biggest complaints about Scrapbook Trends is the cost of $14.95/issue. Northridge Media has just introduced a new way for readers to still enjoy Scrapbook Trends and the other beautiful Northridge publications (Cards, Simply Handmade, Bead Trends and their idea books) at a lower price by subscribing to digital versions for as little as $4.99/issue. There is also an option to subscribe to all of the Northridge publications and idea books for a $9.99/month subscription price.

Northridge is marketing the digital edition as environmentally friendly, and pointing out that it is printer-friendly for subscribers who like to archive their favorite ideas for later use. The issues also feature clickable navigation - readers can go directly to an article from the table of contents, or to an advertiser's website from an ad. It also features a keyword search that includes supply lists for finding all projects created with certain products, etc.

Scrapbook magazine subscribers have always been notoriously resistant to the concept of digital publications in the past. But the significant price discount on a magazine that they already enjoy but can't afford on a regular basis may be enough to overcome the built-in resistance to the digital format for some people.

Another Birthday Card for the Man in Your Life

Here is a birthday card I made for my brother's birthday. I die cut the scallop circle with my big shot, followed by the die cutting the To the Nines Speciality Paper with my Sizzex Clear Circle. I stamped the beer mugs from the Cheers to You stamp set and cut them out. The beer mugs were colored in with my Stampin' Write Markers. I stamped the greeting from the Full of Life stamp set. I finished the card with my More Mustard grosgrain ribbon and the retired buttons.

It's seems like I've had to make quite a few cards and gifts for the men in my life. Here is a sympathy card I made. The background of the card comes from the To the Nines Speciality designer series paper. I then diecut the Scallop Oval with my Big Shot. The tree from the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set. I colored in with my Stampin' Write Markers, Chocolate Chip and Always Artichoke. The finishing touches was the Latte button with Linen Thread, the strip of Chocolate Chip card stock and the chocolate chip grosgrain ribbon.

Homemade Baseball Gift Bag

Here is a gift bag I made for the Mets fan in my life. The background of the gift bag is Pacific Point designer series Paper which I paired up with Tangerine Tango. I die cut the Play Ball with the Naturally Serif Sizzlet. I then applied some Tangerine Tango to pieces of chipboard and ran them through the Big Shot with an old Sizzex die. I punched holes in the top of the stars with my Crop-a-dile, I then tied some hemp and through both stars and tied a bow on top. The baseball mits I stamped from the retired Toy Box stamp set on to a piece of Creamy Caramel. Then stamped the image again and on a piece of white card stock and cut the baseballs out and attached them to the center of the mits. The baseball I made with my Sizzex Clear Circle die cut. I drew the baseball stitching with my journaling pens. Next I punched out stars and the arrow from the My Way punch. It's a little hard to read , by the arrow points to a strip that I printed on my computer saying Let's Go Mets. The finishing touches was the 5/16" white brads and the strips of Tangerine Tango on top and bottom.

Color Challenge

Here is this week's color challenge. It is Riding Hood Red, Always Artichoke and Basic Grey. The border of the page I used the Walk in the Park designer series paper in the Occasions mini. The next border as well as the flower petals comes from the Riding Hood Red Patterns Designer Series Paper. The flower petals were made with my Wide Oval punch. The stem I cut out with my Cutter Kit. The flower petal I die cut with my Flower Layers with Leaf Sizze. I also diecut the center of the flower with a piece of white paper applied to a piece of chipboard. I used the Circles Sizzex die cut for that. The greeting comes from the Good Friend stamp set. The butterflies come from the flight of the butterfly stamp set. The finishing touch was the 3 white jumbo brads.

My Swaps for Spring Fling

Here are two swaps I made for Spring Fling. The first one uses the Great Friend stamp set. I paired it up with the Bella Rose designer series paper. I cut the circle with my Circle Big Shot die cut. I then stamped the frame image. I attached the butterfly to the card with my gold brads. The eyelet border and the Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla satin ribbon finishes the card off.

The next card I used the hostess set, A little somethin'. I die cut the large heart with my Hearts Sizzlets. I then stamped the word friend from the set. I then punched out the Trio flower and put a brad through the center. I then punched a small heart with my Heart to Heart punch. I attached both punches with Stampin' Dimensionals. I then made the scallop border. The extra piece of card stock that come off when you punch the border, I added to the bottom of the card for an extra embellishment. The background of the card comes also from the Bella Rose designer series paper.

Some of the WOW projects at Spring Fling

I am always so amazed by the talent that is in our group. Here are just some of the WOW projects that caught my eye at Spring Fling on Saturday. I could have a couple days of posts but I figued I would just limit it to just a handful of them. Enjoy! We have another event coming up in the Fall. Email me today if you want me to keep you posted of the date so you can attend the event with me. The first one uses the Birthday pop up die to make a 3D bunny that was made by my friend Kelly Mahoney.

The next project is two little dresser drawer made with the Matchbox die cut in our Occasions Mini. How precious are these! These were also made my Kelly.

The next one I am not sure who brought it in, but how great is this step card made with the Crazy for Cupcakes stamp set.

I am so loving this cute little tote. How great is it!

The last project that I am going to post is the centerpieces made by our very own leader, Tina Rosenkrans. How cute is this jar with bird seeds. It has a little chipboard birdie on top. Too cute. I apologize for not posting more beautiful projects, but a girl has to stop some somewhere or I will be here all night.

The first one was a Stationary Box filled with cards and tags using the Walk in the Park designer series paper and Summer Love Rub-Ons. The second project was a shadow box made with the Beautiful Butterflies die cut and our home decor elements. For those of you who attended, I tend to love buttons and brads on my butterflies, so I changed that when I got home otherwise here are the fabulous projects we made.

Color Challenge for the Week of 4/12 -18

Well I am a little late with this last week's color challenge. The colors were: Kraft, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze and Certainly Celery. I have to say I love the way this page came out. It took a little bit off of work, but I after playing around I finally got it the way I wanted it. I started with the Parisian Breeze designer series paper. I then used elements from the retired Just Delightful simply scrappin' kit. I believe we earned it for free during Sale-a-bration one year. I used the leaves, strips of celery, the discover label and the Dream border. I then adhered of the designer paper onto chipboard and ran it through the Big Shot to make the chipboard circle. I then used the photo corner in the top right of the photo with designer paper from the kit. The J I die cut with my big shot as well with white cardstock adhered onto chipboard. The butterflies were stamped from the Great Friend stamp set. I put some vintage brads in the center. The flowers I made with my scallop circle punch that I cut into the center to make the scallops look like petals. In the center I attached 1" circle punch outs using the same designer paper from the background. I attached the centers with Stampin' Dimensinals. The finishing touches was the scallop border, strips of Pink Pirouette and three jumbo white brads.

Christmas Scrappin'

I finally had a chance to do some scrapbooking so I completed all my holiday cards I recieved in the mail. Here is a 8 1/2 x 11 double page layout using the Bella Rose Designer Series Paper and the Deer Friends stamp set. I stamped the gingerbread man from the Deer Friend stamp set and punched him out with the 1 1/4" circle punch. I then proceeded to layer him on top of the 1 3/8" circle and the scallop circle punch. A strip of Bella Rose lines the bottom and the top of the pages. A scallop border was made with my slit punch. The greeting I diecut from an old Sizzex alphabet that was available at a recent crop I attended. The finishing touch was the Very Vanilla buttons I attached to the pages.

Engagement Party Invitations

Here are the second set of homemade invitations that I just finished off. They were for my cousin's engagement party. I started die cutting the Clear Circle. Then I stamped the flowers in Baja Breeze from the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set and cut them out. I attached them to the front of the invitations with Stampin' Dimensionals. The greeting comes from the Together Forever stamp set. The finishing touch was two silver brads. The folded a piece of card stock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Scallop Circle die cut. I made sure to put the fold a little lower than the top of the scallop. This allowed for a fold to remain so the scallop opened up like a card.

This Week's Color Challenge

Well to end the Countdown to Easter here is my color challenge in a candy bar wrapper. The colors for this week are Pretty in Pink, So Saffron, Sage Shadow and Certainly Celery. These come from the retired paper Spring Fling which I laid a strip at the bottom of the wrapper. I stamped the word spring in the various colors with my Big Deal alphabet. I then stamped 2 butterflies from the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set. I adhered them with just a little mono in the center and then folded the wings up so that way they look like they are flying. The finishing touch was the certainly celery grosgrain ribbon I adhered to the paper. I tied a bow and adhered it with a mini glue dot.

I then stamped and colored in the duck with my Stampin' Write Markers. I die cut the word Easter from the Naturally Serif Sizzlits. I die cut the little flower from the Stampin' Up! Birds & Blossoms Sizzlits and put a Latte Designer Button in the center. The background paper comes from the Afternoon Tea designer series paper. Another Easter Tag

For this Easter tag I pulled out the Scallop #2 die cut and my Circle Scissors Plus for the Circle layers. The colors are Barely Banana and Regal Rose. The designer series paper I used was Candy Lane for the background. I pulled out the eggs one more time from the Wagon Full of Fun stamp set and colored them in with my Stampin' Write Markers. I masked off the one egg and stamped the second egg so it looks like it laying behind the first egg. I punched a flower from the Flower Trio punch and added a barely banana brad in the center. The flower and the eggs were added to the tag with Stampin' Dimensionals. The greeting comes from the retired Just so Sayings stamp set. I tied a bow with my wide Regal Rose grosgrain and added it to the tag. These tags are going to make their way on top of the Bromilow chocolate bunnies I bought!

Easter Treat Holder

Here's a bag topper I made to top a cellophane bag filled with Jelly Beans. It started with the Big Shot Top Note which I laid on top of a piece of Afternoon Tea designer series paper with a scallop edge border. I stamped the egg from the Wagon Full of Fun on a piece of designer paper and then cut it out. I then added a flower from the Trio Flower punch which has a silver brad in the center. I popped up the flower and the egg with Stampin' Dimensionals. The Happy Easter greeting comes from the retired All Year Cheer stamp set.

Countdown to Easter

In the next couple of days, I'll be counting down the days to Easter with tags, card and treat holders. So here's the first one. I was in Babys R Us and I was getting a little something extra for nephew for Easter. Looked around for a gift bags, found large ones but they were going for 5$. As I got to the register I found this great large "green" bag at the register for $1.50. How great is that. It's a lot more sturdy than the gift bags. So I decided to dress it up with a homemade gift tag. So since it was a big bag, I decided to pull out a my Sizzex Serif Essentials Die Cuts. For the side I made an eyelet border in the Almost Amethyst and laid a piece of the Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper. I then stamped the eggs from the Wagon Full of Fun stamp set. I colored them in with Stampin' Write markers and adhered them to the tag with Stampin' Dimensionals. Lastly, I made a hole with my Crop-a-dile and tied a white taffeta bow.

Beautiful Butterfly Card

When I saw this color combo I just knew I wanted to make a card with it. It is Chocolate Chip, Not Quite Navy and Bashful Blue. The circle and the butterflies were die cut using retired Patterns and Prints Designer Paper. I added the chocolate chip buttons to the centers of the butterlies. The chocolate chip card stock I ran through the Big Shot as well using the Stampin' Up! Texured Plates. The greeting comes from the Upsy Daisy stamp set. The finishing touches were the eyelet border punch and the wide grosgrain ribbon.

Homemade Easter Gift Bag

Here is an Easter gift bag I made in preparation for the holiday. I started with the stamped images from the Wagon Full of Fun from the Occasions Mini, the Duck, the wagon, the Easter Egg and the greeting. How fun are all these images! The eggs were a little tricky. I stamped the wagon first, then, I took a piece of paper and covered the stamped wagon as I stamped the first Easter egg. Then on a scrap piece of paper, I stamped another Easter egg and cut it out. I then used it as a mask to cover the first egg I stamped. Next, I colored all the images with my Stampin' Write Markers. Next I used my Spiral Binder punch to make the spiral notebook edge. I then used my Big Shot to die cut the flowers usin the Flower Layers and leaf die cut. I put a So Saffron button in the center. Next I adhered a piece of the fun Tea Party paper to the bag with sticky strip. The finishing touches were the So Saffron wide grosgrain ribbon I attached to the bag, the tailored bow I made to put on top of the bag and the bow tied on top of the bag.
